Minnie Mouse - The Fashionable First Lady of Disney

Mickey Mouse may be the official mascot of The Most Magical Place on Earth, however Minnie Mouse has unquestionably earned her way into the hearts of Disney fans worldwide.  Minerva Mouse, a.k.a. Minnie, first appeared alongside Mickey in a 1928 animated-short, Plane Crazy. Her sweet nature captivated her audience, but it’s also her fashion sense that sets her apart. Minnie is recognized for her signature polka dots and vast bow collection. She is uniquely feminine, sophisticated, and kind to everyone she meets. We forget she is an animated character and appreciate the happiness she brings to her fans every time we see her.

World of Disney is Getting a New Look!

The world’s largest Disney character store is getting a makeover. World of Disney, a 50,000 square foot complex located in Disney Springs, will be moving portions of their inventory to a location in the Town Center section while it undergoes renovations—theme sections such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Star Wars will be relocated, leaving the general Disney brands intact. With the recent expansion of Disney Springs, the new store fronts and restaurants reflect a more opulent atmosphere than that of the twenty-something World of Disney. We look forward to seeing its completion by the holidays.

World of Disney opened its doors in October of 1996 in what was then called the, Disney Village. The first Disney retail store was opened almost ten years earlier in the Glendale Galleria located in Glendale, California. Disney also offers their Disney themed merchandise online at ShopDisney.com.

No snow, no diamonds, and no plastic! For the first time since 2014 we now see the turret roofs. This may not be the biggest or most ornate of the Disney castles but it is my favorite and, of course, the flagship of the company. Since the Disneyland TV show in 1954 Sleeping Beauty's Castle has made children's hearts sing and given adults goosebumps. Walking over the working draw-bridge (which has only official been used 3 times) and hearing "When You Wish Upon a Star" is a right of passage for millions of people over the last 63 years!

Happy New Year!

The Year of the Dog begins this Friday, Jan. 26th, with return of the Lunar New Year festival at Disney California Adventure Park. The event includes food offerings from a collection of restaurants, themed decorations in the Paradise Gardens area, a street festival with Mulan and Mushu, and a pre-show to the World of Color.

Mulan's Lunar New Year Procession

A colorful performance held in Paradise Garden. Mulan and Mushu preside over this processional, which features dancers, acrobats, and drummers. There is a fairly small viewing area available here, so you'll want to make sure to arrive early enough to claim a good spot. Check performance times on the Disneyland website before you go, or check the Times Guide or Disneyland app once you're in the park.

Iconic Toon, Finally Gets a Star of Her Own

She may be turning 90, but film, TV and fashion icon Minnie Mouse is as em vogue as ever.

She has a starring role on a Disney Channel show, tirelessly greets fans at Disney Parks around the world, and has inspired top fashion designers well into her octogenarian years. She is a licensing powerhouse. And on Jan. 22, she received her very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Minnie’s forever sweetheart, Mickey Mouse, was at her side when she received the honor. Mickey was the first cartoon character to get a star in 1978, when he was 50, and was later joined by other Disney characters.

Walt Disney Co. CEO Robert Iger and singer Katy Perry spoke at the 11:30 a.m. PST ceremony in front of the Disney's El Capitan Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard.

"After 90 years of serving LOOKS & smiles as the polka dot queen, it's time she got that recognition!'' Perry tweeted. The star is the 2,627th since the completion of the Walk of Fame in 1961 with the first 1,558 stars. The ceremony was livestreamed on walkoffame.com.

Minnie Mouse was part of the first animated film featuring Mickey Mouse, "Steamboat Willie,'' which was released in 1928. This means Minnie's star is for the Motion Picture category. Minnie Mouse is known for her polka dot attire and the ceremony coincides with National Polka Dot Day!

Happiest NEWS on Earth!

Candlelight on Sunday was beautiful as always! The choir, soloist, harolders, and orchestra were superb as you'd expect.. Chris Hemsworth while festive to look at, falls flat as a host and narrator. My one complaint is with Guest Control.

During the first performance the management of people leaving the park was not well thought out. The middle of Main Street U.S.A. had to remain empty for the processional/recessional. All traffic in and out of the park was funnelled down the side walks. The resort spent months, and some funds, to create the side corridors for exactly this type of event. Yet they were not in use. The resulting throngs exiting the park were extremely dissatisfied, and very rukus. This of course made it all the more difficult for the audience to appreciate the performance. I had initially theorized that the leadership of stores wanted the corridors closed to ensure holiday shoppers visited the locations on Main Street. But, the front doors of a great many of the stores facing the street were not only closed but locked!

The ceremony as well as the lighting of the christmas tree and Sleeping Beauty's Enchanted Winter Castel still signified the beginning of the season for me. Though a little more planning on the part of day guests, but especially guest management leadership would have made all merry and bright.

Holiday Tea Party

The Very Merry Holiday Tea Party at the Disneyland Hotel's Steakhouse 55 returns for a second season.. Here's the information from the Disneyland website, which is also where you can make reservations for the tea:

Tea is served Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m.

Holiday Tea Menu:
  • White chocolate cranberry scone
  • Smoked trout sandwich
  • Christmas tree-shaped cucumber sandwich
  • Open face cage-free egg sandwich
  • Wreath-shaped Caprese salad sandwich
  • Christmas light and Santa-decorated strawberries
  • Gingerbread cookies
  • Choice of gingerbread, apple pie or mulled spice teas

  • Christmas tree-shaped cucumber sandwich
  • Ham and cheddar snowman sandwich
  • Peanut butter and jelly Mickey sandwich

Have You Seen These Rose Gold Minnie Ears?

With Disney fandom and culture constantly growing, Minnie Ears have never been more popular. There's no doubt that there's been an explosion in their popularity over the last few years. This is due to the Disney experience transcending the usual day out at a theme park. It is a lifestyle. People base their fashion on Disney. They build social groups around it and grow collections, interests and hobbies around it. True fans are always looking to step up their Disney outfit game. When you hit Disneyland or DCA, you're sure to see people decked out in everything from the latest Disney gear, to vintage pieces that will spark jealousy, to tons of adorable DIY creations. Topping all of this (quite literally) are the ever-loved Minnie Ears.

Dating back to the 50's, Mickey and Minnie Mouse Ears have been some of the best-selling and most iconic souvenirs at Disney theme parks. Over the decades, the ears have evolved to take on less of a simple souvenir role and have grown to represent fashion, creativity and a love for all things Disney. The Minnie Mouse Ears, with their adorable bows, have risen to be the pinnacle of Disney fashion. A part of their success can be attributed to Disney's wide array of vibrant colors and themed ears. They cleverly release seasonal ears that take on the colors of Halloween and Christmas among many other holidays. They offer themed ears based on favorite characters such as Jack Skellington, Maleficent, and Belle (plus many more). The list goes on of colors, themes and designs available at the parks.

Along with the official ears produced by Disney, Etsy stores dedicated to DIY Minnie Ears have exploded in popularity over the last few years. These custom-made ears boast brilliant all-floral designs and over-the-top embellishments that go beyond the features of official Disney-made ears. This clearly represents Disney enthusiasts' desire to create their own identities and aesthetics to suit their lifestyles within the parks. People have full on collections of ears and make Minnie Ear hunting their top priority when visiting the Disney Parks. With social media on everyone's minds, the right Minnie Ears with the right outfit just might make for the perfect Instagram shot. That's what it's all about. How often have you visited the parks and seen people with their perfectly on-trend outfits, sporting Minnie Ears, trying to get the right shot for their socials? It's common to find moments that are just short of full-on photo shoots happening outside of Sleeping Beauty's Castle, or in front of Paradise Pier. Everyone is willing to do what it takes to get just the right Minnie Ears to complement their outfits. There's one trend within these many ears that seems to never die out among Minnie Ear aficionados: sequins.

Plain and simple, Disney fans love some sparkle on their Minnie Mouse Ears. For years now, Disney has offered gold and silver sequined ears. Sequins have popped up in other designs like the beloved Sorcerer Mickey themed ears with their white moons and stars and sparkles. But the simplicity of the monochromatic all gold and all silver sequined Minnie Ears have been a fan favorite for many years. Their sleek, yet flashy design makes them the perfect accessory for just about any outfit. They go with nearly everything and still provide that eye-catching shine that everyone looks for in their Minnie Ears. Recently, Disney has dropped a ground shaking, earthshattering addition to the sequined collection. That's right, I'm talking about the rose gold Minnie Ears.

Now, you may be asking yourself what the big deal is about rose gold Minnie Ears. To be thoroughly honest, I think everyone is thinking the same thing. They are just a new version of the gold and silver ears. They boast same exact single-color design, the same amount of sequins and should be just as readily available to add to your collection. The keyword their being should. After releasing the rose gold Minnie Ears at the end of summer, the parks have been selling out of them. Don't get us wrong, they are great looking ears! But there really isn't a quantifiable explanation as to why these specific ears have caught on so well. Disney doesn't seem to be intentionally making them limited in quantity. They have been available at the same amount of shops. I've done some contemplating and asking around, and I've come up with some possible answers as to why these rose gold ears just can't seem to stay in stock.

First, they are a new version of a great design. As I've mentioned, fans have always loved the gold and silver versions of the sequined ears. Suddenly having a new option in the same vein of these classics must be appealing to people. The second explanation has a little more to do with actual fashion. Outside of the Disney universe, rose gold everything has been popular over the last few years. From watches, to jewelry, to accents on clothing, rose gold has been popping up everywhere. It has a distinguished charm that lies outside the classic silver and gold tones that most people have been accustomed to. The mix of gold with a hint of pink provides the right appeal that livens up people's social media feeds. The color just looks good. The third and final (and most likely) reason is that they are hard to get. Millennials love when things are hard to get. When fashion brands and sneaker brands release a limited product, people are willing to line up for them. Somehow, the internet and social media had deemed the rose gold Minnie Ears as the newest, greatest thing. From there, people have bought them up at an alarming rate. Disney can't keep them on their shelves. The need for them has spread to a viral level on the internet.

I, personally, know people that took a couple months to get their hands on the rose gold Minnie Ears. I even know a good amount of people that are still hunting them down. Their current demand is unrivaled as they continue to sell out. They have even been popping up on eBay for double or triple their retail price! The struggle is real for those who haven't been able to get a pair. When asked about shipments of the sought after ears, employees both in and around the parks give the same answer; shipments are not trackable. You just have to keep checking for the rose gold Minnie Ears. If you haven't got a pair, be vigilant about checking at your favorite Disney retail spots around the parks. We're willing to help out with a chance to win a set of rose gold Minnie Ears here. Make sure to enter for your chance to win! Otherwise, good luck hunting for your pair because one thing is for sure, the rose gold Minnie Mouse Ears are an instant classic.

Runners Assemble!

The fourth Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend begins this Thursday, November 9th, and continues through Sunday, November 12th. The races are expected to draw tens of thousands of runners, walkers, and spectators to the Disneyland Resort, and includes road closures and operational changes that could impact anyone visiting during this weekend. .

The Last Run

This will be the last runDisney event on the calendar in SoCal, with future races put on "hiatus" through 2019 because of construction projects at the Disneyland Resort.

For one more run around the park before the hiatus, registration is still open for the Super Heroes Half Marathon event, though runDisney has added a $12 "late registration" fee to the $185 event price, and warns that corral placement is based on availability, and shirt sizes are not guaranteed

Guest at the resort?

The Disneyland Resort is going to be extremely popular this weekend. The race falls during the start of the 2017 holiday celebration, as well as over the long Veteran's Day Weekend. Runners tend not to stay up late the night before a races, but guests coming to see the new nighttime holiday entertainment will keep the parks busy after dark.

The Health Expo takes place in the Disneyland Hotel's convention center, so expect large crowds at the stores and eateries. If you are staying at one of the Disneyland Resort hotels, expect some event related noise Friday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings, starting before dawn. If you are staying at the Grand Californian Hotel in a room overlooking Downtown Disney, expect to hear spectator cheering starting around 5:45 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

While all the events take place before park opening or outside the parks, you will still experience traffic delays and extra crowds. Give yourself plenty of time if driving to the resort in the morning.

Both parks open at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Early entry for hotel guests and eligible ticket holders is at 8:00 a.m. at Disney California Adventure on Friday and Sunday, at Disneyland on Saturday, .

You can not view the race from inside Disneyland park unless you purchase a $79 ChEAR Squad package. Online registration is still open, and you may purchase packages at the Expo. There is no half marathon viewing inside DCA, and no theme park viewing for the 5K or 10K events.

If you want to come cheer on the runners without buying a ticket, or plan to cheer at the Friday's 5K or Saturday's 10K, Disney recommends viewing areas on property. All of these viewing areas are accessible only by foot; so walk from either the Mickey and Friends parking structure, or your hotel. You can register to receive runner tracking updates via text message, Twitter, or Facebook. Sign up via the runDisney webform, or text "SH " to 38909.

Once again the event guide is only available in digital format so be sure to take a look before you come to Anaheim. Corral, bib assignment and waivers are all available on the runDisney website now.

The first guests will arrive well before the official 10:00 a.m. opening on Thursday. You do not need to collect your race packet before you enter the expo.

Because the Expo remains open until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, Friday afternoon may be the best time to attend the expo if all you want to do is get your race packet and get out. If you're running the half marathon, you can visit the Expo between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday to get your race gear.

Disney charges runners to park in the Mickey and Friends parking structure during the race expo and on race morning. If you are an annual passholder with parking benefits they will be honored. If you are staying at an Anaheim area hotel on the ART (Anaheim Resort Transit), free shuttles run every 20 minutes during the events.

Registered runners can receive 2 hours complimentary parking when using the Downtown Disney parking lot for the expo. Take your parking ticket with you when you leave your car. After you pick up your race bib, take your bib and parking ticket to the Parking Validation booth on the lower level. to receive the validation stamp. This covers the first two hours of Downtown Disney parking; additional hours are charged in 30 minute increments at $6.

Jazz, Brunch, and Building

The fun happens three times this year: December 9th, 10th and 16th. participants can do a brunch and building package, or just come for the construction portion.

The Building and Brunch package is a 3 hour party. Builders can feast at the Ralph Brennan's brunch buffet from 11:00 to 12:00, and enjoy unlimited soft drinks. After brunch, stay for the gingerbread house workshop. The package is $40 per adult, and $25 per child age 3-10. Gingerbread house kits are $25 each, and come with the pre-formed gingerbread slabs, icing, candy decorations and a jingle bell. Each party must purchase at least one gingerbread kit for their group, but may purchase additional kits if some members want to build their own house.

The Workshop Only package includes admission to the two hour workshop, where your group creates and decorates your own gingerbread house, which you get to take home. The price is $48 for two people, which includes one gingerbread kit, with additional seats available for $20 each. Tickets for this package are limited. You may bring your own decorations; icing, candy, and such .

Catal's Breakfast with Santa

The 2017 event is expanded, with seatings 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on December 9th, 10th, 16th, 17th, 21st, 22nd and 23rd. Tickets went on sale back in July, but space is still available. The event includes family style breakfast at Catal restaurant in Downtown Disney, live entertainment, a photo opportunity with Santa Claus, and a Build-a-Bear Workshop teddy bear for each child. Tickets are $75 per adult, and $30 per child ages 3 to 10. Children 2 and under are free, but must be counted in the party size. Book online via the Patina Group website.

Pixar Pier

Disney released details of the Pixar Pier re-theme of Paradise Pier. Those of us hoping this was a temporary overlay now know this is a permanent makeover for Disney's California Adventure. Leaving one to wonder, is it time to change the park's name? Between these changes and the conversion of part of Hollywood Land to a Marvel theme, there is less and less California here.

Disney will separate Paradise Pier into four neighborhoods Three of the neighborhoods will be themed to single Pixar films: The Incredibles, Toy Story, and Inside Out. The Incredibles section center piece being The Incredicoaster, a permanent re-theme of California Screamin'. Disney says the ride will feature a new vehicle, new effects, some form of "character moment," and a new load area.

The Toy Story neighborhood features Toy Story Midway Mania, and will mean a new theme for King Triton's Carousel also in the neighborhood, though Disney's announcement made no mention of any plans for the carousel.

A brand new attraction based on Inside Out is planned on the spot which held the Maliboomer. Disney says this ride will open at a later date. From the artwork it appears to be a rotating arial ride ala the Golden Zephyr.

The fourth neighborhood is sort of a "Fantasyland" of Pixar. While Mickey's Fun Wheel will still feature Mickey's pie-eyed face looking out over Paradise Bay, each of the gondolas will be painted with a different Pixar character. The Games of the Boardwalk will also get a Pixar makeover, with new carnival games inspired by "A Bug's Life," "La Luna" and "WALL·E."

Ariel's Grotto and the Cove Bar will both get Pixar make overs, and will also close January 8th. There has been no word as to a possible replacement for the Princess character meal currently offered at Ariel's Grotto. Everything between Silly Symphony Swings and The Little Mermaid – Ariel's Undersea Adventure, including the Paradise Gardens area, will become a new land called Paradise Park.

Walls go up January 8th with the closure of California Screamin', Mickey's Fun Wheel, Ariel's Grotto, the Cove Bar, Games of the Boardwalk and Sideshow Shirts. Disney says the new land is expected to debut during the Pixar Fest promotion which begins April 13th, though The Incredicoaster opens in June, around the release of The Incredibles 2.

Mickey's Birthday

The Disney company is marking Mickey Mouse's upcoming birthday with appearances around the globe this month, "surprising fans in eight locations with an unexpected visit". The world tour wraps up on November 15, when "the boss" pays a visit to Good Morning America. You can follow the antics on the official Facebook and Instagram pages, as well as by tracking the hash tag #HappyBirthdayMickey

Mickey's birthday is Monday, November 18, and that's when Disneyland will commemorate the occasion with a character cavalcade and performance by the Disneyland Band. Park visitors will also receive a commemorative Happy Birthday, Mickey! button that day.

Most Wonderful Time of the Year

It is a week early this year! Holidays at the Disneyland Resort officially begins this Friday, November 10th, and runs through January 7th, 2018. The holiday focus continues on DCA. Two holiday overlays are coming to Cars Land attractions, "Luigi's Joy to the Whirl" and "Mater's Jingle Jamboree." Each holiday overlay features new songs recorded for the attractions.

For the Halloween Time the lighting moments on Buena Vista Street and in Cars Land were synchronized, to avoid having a wave of people move from one location to the other to catch both There was no specific mention of a new "lighting moment" for Cars Land, but given that the nightly tree lighting on Buena Vista Street was moved by 5 minutes this year to take place at sunset, it seems likely there will be something happening in Cars Land as well.

The fantastic Festival of Holidays returns to Disney California Adventure for a second year, with entertainment and food offerings themed to winter celebrations of Christmas, Hanukkah, Diwali, Kwanzaa, and Three Kings Day. Returning performing groups Blue13 Dance Company and Mostly Kosher are joined by a new a capella group The Sound. Also returning my personal favorite ¡Viva Navidad! Street Party. Princess Elena's Musical Grand Arrival will also be returning for a second year. Guests are encouraged to dance to live music during the new nightly Holiday Sunset Concerts in Paradise Park. Phat Cat Swinger performs Fridays through Mondays, and the Mariachi Divas take the stage Tuesdays through Thursdays.

Santa will be in residence at both the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail in Disney California Adventure and Pooh Corner in Disneyland Park this year, and will appear in A Christmas Fantasy Parade at Disneyland. Also in Disneyland perennial favorite "it's a small world" holiday reopens on Friday for the season. The nightly lighting moment takes place at 5:15 p.m. most nights. The brief "Wintertime Enchantment" of Sleeping Beauty Castle takes place twice most nights, with projections on the castle and snow in the immediate area.

Ready, Set, Stop!

As previously reported, runDisney announced that races at the DLR would be on hiatus beginning in 2018. The already pre-sold 2018 Star Wars – The Light Side Half Marathon and the Tinker Bell Half Marathon were cancelled, with refunds issued to runners who had already registered.

In a social media posts this week, runDisney has confirmed that events will not return to SoCal in 2019. The 2018-2019 schedule lists four race weekends in Walt Disney World, the 3rd year of a Disneyland Paris event, and the return of the summertime virtual race series. There are no Disneyland races scheduled.

In the past runDisney's race year started with Disneyland's Half Marathon on Labor Day weekend, and finished with the Tinker Bell Half Marathon weekend over Mother's Day. With the publication of the 2018-19 schedule, the first opportunity for a West Coast race could be the 2020 Disneyland Half Marathon.

The last race currently scheduled for DLR is next month's Super Heroes Weekend. Registration is still open for the Half Marathon event, though runDisney has added a $12 "late registration" fee to the $185 event price, and warns that corral placement is based on availability, and shirt sizes are not guaranteed.

Looking Dapper!

The Dapper Day Fall Outing to Disneyland is Sunday, November 5th. This popular event is a great time for people watching, and grows larger every year. The scheduled events take place on Sunday, but the Dapper Days Expo runs Saturday and Sunday from Noon to 7:00 p.m. and we are likely to spot well-dressed guests all weekend.

Tickets to the Dapper Day Expo are $10.00, and includes admission on both days, plus admittance to a series of workshops on Saturday. Tickets may be purchased at the door, or online.

Pixar Feat 2018

This "limited-time event," includes a new fireworks show called "Together Forever – A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular." This show will use the projectors installed for the 60th anniversary "Disneyland Forever" fireworks show, painting images on Main Street, U.S.A., "it's a small world," and The Rivers of America. The spectacular will also have a flyover of Sleeping Beauty Castle by Buzz Lightyear!

The Pixar Play Parade will move across the Esplanade to Disneyland for the promotion, with three new units. The Paint the Night parade will return to the Disneyland Resort on April 13th, but stepping off in DCA.

Also in Disney California Adventure, the Sunset Showcase Theater in the Back-lot will play Pixar shorts on a rotating basis.

There is no mention in the most recent announcements of the Pixar Pier re-theme of the Paradise Pier which was announced at the 2017 D23 Expo.

Eastern Gateway Closed

Disney has confirmed that the Eastern Gateway project has been scrapped. Originally announced in 2016, the Eastern Gateway would have created a main entrance to the resort, with a 6,800-space Lion King parking structure and a new transportation hub for buses and shuttles. Visitors would pass through a new centralized security checkpoint and onto to a pedestrian bridge taking them right over Harbor Blvd..

In preparation for the project, Disney purchased and announced plans to demolish the Carousel Inn & Suites, with that land to become the walkway.

The plan drew complaints and threats of legal action from a coalition of hotels and restaurants along Harbor Blvd, who feared Disney's new bridge would have a negative impact on their businesses. Though the concept of the bridge over Harbor was approved in the 1992 Disneyland Resort Specific Plan that governs development in this section of Anaheim.

With the pending opening of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge in 2019, and the resorts parking challenges becoming urgent, the company has decided to go back to Plan A, and expand the Mickey and Friends structure which had already been approved as part of the original plan.

Disney says it still intends to demolish the Carousel Inn & Suites in the next few weeks, but has no plans for the land at this time.

Plan A Expansion Moves Forward

The Mickey and Friends parking structure will gain a 6500 space neighbor, built on what is currently the Pinocchio lot. The two parking structures will share the existing Mickey and Friends vehicle entrance, with new access lanes leading to the new structure and toll plaza. The new structure will have its own set of elevators and escalators, leading to a redesigned security checkpoint and tram loading area.

A fourth hotel for the Disneyland Resort was first announced in 2016, when Disney filed plans to construct the 700-room resort along the northern edge of the current Downtown Disney parking lot. Disney said at the time that the property would break ground in 2018, and open in 2021.

Disney says the hotel will feature direct access via Monorail to Disneyland Park, incorporating the Downtown Disney station into it's design. No word yet on whether non-hotel guests will be able to access the attraction. There was also no mention of a planned Tomorrow Tower at the Disneyland Hotel for Disney Vacation Club. What is certain is that Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel will not get a designed rebuild, as the parking lot behind the hotel is now destined to become a structure.

The size and timeline for the new hotel hasn't changed, but the location most certainly has. Disney now plans to build the hotel at the western edge of Downtown Disney, on land currently occupied by the ESPN Zone, Rain-forest Cafe, and the complex housing the AMC Theater, Earl of Sandwich restaurant, the Walt Disney Travel Co., Alamo Car Rental, and the second Downtown Disney Starbucks. Construction will begin in the summer of 2018 and the property is still slated to open in 2021. Operators of the affected businesses notified their employees of the pending closures shortly before Disney made its announcement last week. Given that the first floor of the new property is retail and food service space, opportunities exist to negotiate possible relocation with each operating partner individually.

Concept art of the Disney Plaza Hotel shows it will take up some of the existing Disneyland Hotel vehicle entrance and parking, as well as a smaller portion of the Downtown Disney parking lot.

Due to the start of construction on the fourth Disneyland Hotel property and the Paradise Pier renovation, runDisney races may not be held as planned in 2018..

This has been both expected and actually feared for quite some time now, and seem inevitable given the event was scheduled to take place in just two months.

In March runDisney announced registration for the races had been "temporarily postponed," and that details would be available at a later date. Even without availability of space for the Light Side event, many runners signed up for Walt Disney World's companion Dark Side event when registration opened in May. In prior years, runners who completed the half marathon distance at both events qualified for an additional Kessel Run Challenge medal, though there was mention of that added challenge in the 2018.

Would be participants became concerned in June, when runDisney deleted race dates and registration information for the 2018 Tinker Bell Half Marathon from the official website, and replaced it with a message saying, "Stay tuned for registration and event information for the 2018 Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend at runDisney.com" .Seven months later, runDisney has yet to provide any updates, or to address the concerns of those runners who already paid to participate in the Light Side event.

Cast members staffing the runDisney booth at the Disneyland Half Marathon race expo in September would only refer runners to the runDisney website for future announcements.

Cancelling runDisney events in Anaheim will also impact their partners in runDisney Charity Groups Program, which includes groups like Autism Speaks, City of Hope, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America.

Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire GRAND OPENING

Tickets are on sale for Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire, an hyper-reality experience being built in Downtown Disney. The new venue opens Friday, January 5, 2018

From the Disney Parks blog:

A galaxy far, far away needs your help. In teams of four, be transported with family and friends in a brand new hyper-reality experience from Lucasfilm, ILMxLAB and The VOID. Under the orders of the budding rebellion, your team will travel to the molten planet of Mustafar. Your mission is to recover Imperial intelligence vital to the rebellion's survival. Alongside the pragmatic droid K-2S0, your team must navigate through an enemy facility walking into danger at every turn. Disguised as stormtroopers, grab your blaster, solve puzzles, and fight giant lava monsters in an effort to fulfill your team's orders.

The 30-minute experience is $29.95, plus a payment processing fee of $2.85. Tickets are available online. No discounts are currently offered to Annual Passholders or Disney cast members.

There is a height requirement of 48 inches, and The Void recommends that participants be at least 10 years or older, "due to the weight of the gear and some intense content." Participants under age 18 must have a parent or guardian sign a waiver.

Time, tickets are currently available through March 6, 2018. The first 5 days are sold out, as are most weekends. Disney has not said how long the experience will remain open.

The Happiest News on Earth

Jingle all away

Disneyland has confirmed that The Jingle Cruise holiday overlay of the World Famous Jungle Cruise will not happen this year. The Adventureland attraction will remain open in its current form through the season. This perennial is a joy just as it is no matter the season!

The Smokiest Place on Earth

The orange skies above are not an elaborate Disney Halloween decoration. A wild fire designated Canyon Fire 2 is burning in Anaheim Hills about 15 miles north-east of the resort. The blaze as of this writing is 8,000 acres and has destroyed over 2 dozens structures. Many local schools and businesses have been closed, with 5,000 homes under mandatory evacuation. Today the fire is 85% contained

Changing in Downtown Disney

In less time then it takes to build a snowman Disney has quietly re-themed Anna and Elsa's make over area in Downtown Disney. The renamed Dream Boutique still caters to ages 3-12, With a wide assortment of clothing and costumes themed to the Disney Princesses. The transformation station which offered services to royal girls and boys has stopped operating. The Bibidi Bobidi Boutique in Disneyland Park's Fantasyland still does makeovers. Frozen packages start at $64.95, and appointments are available 60 days in advance by calling (714) 781-STYLE (7895).

As mentioned in previous UPdates Downtown Disney has lost other haberdashers recently., Chapel Hats, Fossil and Vault 28 have all closed. The Chapel Hats space will eventually be used for additional dining offerings, but at least through the holiday season the space will be used as a temporary retail home for Vault 28's The Dress Shop line through the holiday season. The combined Vault 28 and Fossil spaces will be used for a new Star Wars virtual reality experience.
